Abortion

An abortion is the premature termination of pregnancy ending in the death of the embryo or foetus. However abortion can also be defined as the death of the embryo or foetus without human interference.The ethics and morality of induced abortion has become the subject of an intense debate in the past fifty rears. No matter how you look at it, abortion is simply the murder of a living human being and therefore should not be tolerated.

Everyone knows that killing another human is wrong. No just because the law forbids it, but because it goes against all our moral and ethical beliefs about the importance of human life. Why then are people allowed to terminate the life of an unborn child? The Catholic church states that all life is sacred no matter what, whether born or unborn makes no difference.During the three main methods used during abortion, the baby is kill in probably the most horrific and painful way possible.The foetus is within the mother’s body and she produced it, therefore she should have the right to terminate it as she does any other part of her body. Is abortion the murder of an unborn child? Many argue that the rights of the mother exceed the rights of the foetus, and that while the foetus is a living organism it does not constitute for a human being. With these aspects in mind the concept of abortion is justifiable. How anyone can justify the killing of an innocent child is beyond reason, and mothers who have abortions can also be harmed.

What people may not be aware of is that abortion is also potentially dangerous to women. “The proportion of women sho are reported as having complications has fallen from 5.8%

(1970 - 74) to 0.6% (2000). However, within this small percentage, infection (9.4%), haemorrhage during surgery (46.9%), and perforation of or trauma to the body of the uterus (3.1%) are still a concern.” This is from page fourteen of The Abortion Issue. According to that only a small percentage of women suffer complications, however a large percentage of those are very serious, even life threatening complications. Abortions can be dangerous, not just physically but mentally, with many women becoming severely upset or depressed.

In Australia in excess of sixty thousand unborn babies are killed each year. Since 1977 will now over one million babies have been killed, legally. That’s more then in all major wars from 1899 to 2000. Arguments supporting abortion in rape cases have been used and supported but that still isn’t considered morally and ethically right by most, especially the Catholic church. Abortion may seem like a quick fix at the time, but there can be many harsh consequences and such actions are completely immoral and unethical and go against everything taught about the importance of human life.

Drugs - the scourage of society

Nowadays, we live in a world that fulled of technological wonders such as colour televisions, supersonic jets and as well as personal computers. We often enjoy a high level of living that our ancestors never even dreamed of it. However, hand in hand with this affluence is a scourage that is also unparalleled in history. Drugs have became a menace and a destroyer of lives in this modern world.

That is undeniable that many people are the victim of drug addiction. This is because they have allowed thier own lives to be ruled by drug for whatever reasons. Maybe it is because of they first tried taking drugs out of curiosity and then got sucked unwittingly into the trap or even maybe it is just a mean to escape from their unhappy lives. The easy availability of drugs, though illegal, contributes significantly to the rise of drug addiction.

Drug addicts are a liability to society. They are unproductive and burdensome. In order to support thier drug habit, they may result to any means. Begging, stealing and involving in criminal activities are the common things for them who are already addicted to the drugs. They just do not care what they do or who gets hurt as long as they get thier next fix. They have lost all their integrity and responsibility as well. For them, life is merely a series of escapes into the dream-world induced by drugs. Reality is too harsh for them.

The luckier drug addict who comes from the richer family may get his regular supply of drugs from his falmily who does not want the family's name to be dragged into public disgrace. But some of them who are not so lucky may get disowned and get thrown into the cesspool of other addicts. Regardless to their origins, drug addicts give the rest of the society huge problems. The polices have to work extra hard to curb drug trafficking. Besides, the rehabilitation centres have to be set up and maintained so that the drug addicts are able to have a chance to kick their habit and return to society. The common people have to take preventive measures against possible robbery and petty theft. Families break up. Jobs are lost. Tears are shed. Millions of lives are thrown into despair and all because of the fine powder derived from the opium plant.

Moreover, drug trafficking is a lucrative trade. It has reached epidemic proportions in all parts of the world. They have made the huge profits out of the misery of other people. This trade is controlled by criminals and crooks. The law enforces simply cannot cope with this epidermic even the death penalty does not seem to deter the traffickers. For every trafficker that gets caught, there must be any others who escape from it to enjoy their ill-gotten gains. Therefore, the police is overworked, the streets are filled with pushers, drug king-pins grow richer and addicts multiply ominously.

In addition, drug addicts also spread diseases through their unclean methods of drug injection. While most of the diseases are mangaeable, one has becomes a real treat to everyone. AIDS, the dreaded killer is now prevalent among drug users. This is not only the users are at risk, but the rest of society stand an awful good chance to become a victim of this incurable affliction.

What can be done to stop this kind of scourage? Most of the methods employed so far seems only threat the symptoms and not the causes. We tried to rehabilitate the drug addicts but not made enough efforts to educate the young ones so that they do not become one of the drug addicts. We watched small-time traffickers while the big ones are untouched. We seized small consignments of drugs while the plants grow in huge quantities in the Golden Triangle.

If a man can spend millions to make war on one another and still not reslove their confflicts , would it not be better to spend the same amount of money to make war on these drugs? Instead of killing one another, it would be a war wiser thing to kill off the opium fields and render the growers and producers helpless. That would be a really positive step in stopping this kind of scourage.

In conclusion, would the powers that be really want the drug menace to be eradicated? Or would they just carry on lamenting the fact and let this kind of scourage slowly eat away into the heart of the society?

Road safety

The main roads and highways in our country are used by many types of vehicles such as cars, lorries, buses and motorcycles travel along. The roads in cities and towns are often chocked with vehicles until traffic jams are created. The roads that linked big towns are also fulled wtih vehicles that it is almost impossible to go any faster than the slow lorries.

The jams and the crawling pace are uncontrolable and unavoidable as much as possible. The danger posed by these overcrawding is something else actually. Traffic accidents take thousands of lives each year and caused many more people to be scarred and maimed. The newspaper carried out news of such accidents almost everyday. Therefore, it is of utmost important to us as road users to know about some basic facts concerning road safety so that we do not become one of the victim of such an accident.

While it is impossible to prevent all of the accidents, but at least we can try our best to minimise the possibility of it. For an example, if we walk, we must be careful not to get into the path of oncoming traffic. It is far safer and less tense to use an overhead pedestrian bridge or zebra lines to cross a road. However for the sake of speed and maybe excitement, many people simply cross a busy street wherever they like. The public should imagine that an old lady may have problems climbing an overhead bridge, but mothers with young children take an enormous risk by moving across the road under the bridge.

Human flesh and bones cannot hope to challenge unyielding steel. Therefore, if we value our own lives it is better that to cross the roads via safe routes, but not playing a cat-and-mouse game with cars and buses. Those who are using bicycles and motorcycles are about the worst road offenders there are. That is undenialbe that the cyclists and motorcyclists constitute the largest number of road fatalities. This is simply because of those cyclists travel against the traffic and the motorcyclists carry five people instead of the maximum of two and crash helmet are worn carelessly or not at all. In addition, young boys race thier souped-up machines in the middle of the town. They weave in and out of traffic causing danger to everyone. Many of these young upstarts do not live to see their next birthday. Therefore, we should ride our motorcycles with utmost care and respect for other road users.

In the hands of many drivers, the car is an extention of their personality. Reckless driving can result in unpleasant consequences. Basically, it is the cause of many accidents. Drivers of lorries and other heavy vehicles are the worst culprits. A fully-ladden timber truck trying to overtake another one not only holds up traffic but makes it so easy for an unsuspecting oncoming car to smash into. These are all the causes of accidents but sometimes it is quite hard to expect them to stop doing all these dangerous things.

In conclusion, to minimise the probability of being a victim of an accident there are certain things must be followed. First of all, respect traffic signs and as well as rules; never race with anyone; use pedestrian crossing; keep away from potential dangers and finally ensure that your vehicles are in good condition. Having faulty brakes or blown lamps at night do not contribute anything to your well being. Nobody likes broken limbs spilled blood as well.

The possible causes of child abuse

Nowadays, that are a lot of child abuse cases popped out especially in current society. The public should take attention and concern as well to reduce the percentage or possibilities of causing the child abuse because we all knew that children really have only a few basic needs such as food, shelter, love and as well as care. Basically, they do not even need anything else beside all these basic needs. Thus, if they are not being given the basic needs that they needed always, they may become very demanding and at the same time the parents may turn on them and this can cause the child abuse.

That is undeniable that most of the child abuse cases seems to be children of parents who are too busy in earning a living and do not have much time for thier own children. Besides, there is reported that more cases seems to be occured in and around the big city such as Kuala Lumpur while the rural areas do not generally have such problem.

In a modern city like Kuala Lumpur, earning for the costs of living is not an easy task. Most of the public have to struggle to make ends meet and thus the demands of work is already enough to fray the nerves of the parents. There is suspected that some of the parents who are too obsessed with his or her work obviously is lack of time to spend with their own children. By the time he or she returns from work, all he or she wants is just some kind of rest and not for anyone to bother or disturb him or her. A child, who has spent the whole day without the parents, yearns for attention and thus may demand it from the parents. In such a case, there is always the high possibility that occured in just about every household, the parents will have to be very careful not to lose his or her temper. Therefore, in many cases, the parents may pacify the child with a lot of presents or even a trip or anything that is able to get back the peace and quiet.
However, anger may overwhelm the parents and he or she may release violence onto the children.

In order to escape from the demands among the children, some of the parents may hand them over to the day care center or child-minders. This kind of handing over of responsibilities does not solve the problem at all. All too often the minders are suffering the same difficulties of making a living and take on the children to supplement thier income. Therefore, They are surely not going to be patient with someone's else children. As the result, there is occuring of the child abuse of often worse than what the parents can mete out.

People who are living in the country are less prone to child abuse simply because they do not have the stress of city living. They are still closer to the nature and this has the effect of making life being easier and simpler. Children are less demanding as there are less things to demand. Therefore, that is rarely that we hear of child abuse in the villages. Besides, the neighbours know each other very well and if there is any occuring of child abuse, they can find it out in the shortest period of time. On the other hand, in the impersonal cities, the abused victims can get killed and no one might even know about it.

In conclusion, perhaps the public can take a cue from the country folks. Parents will have to reappraise thier priorities in doubting about is making a living the only important thing or are the welfare of thier children of greater importance. They should figure it out themselves.
